Best Ever Brats
This recipe adds the extra step of letting the brats cook in a crock pot for the afternoon. The onion and broth in the crock pot add wonderful flavor and the brats will be very tender. If you are making a large batch increase the water and the number of bouillon cubes.
Ingredients
6 to 12 Raw Brats
1 Knorr chicken bouillon cube (large one that makes 2 cups)
1 Knorr Beef bouillon cube (large one that makes 2 cups)
I extra large sweet yellow onion peeled and sliced.
Preparation
Place your brats in a large pot and cover with water. The pot should not be more than three-quarters of the way filled.
Bring the water and brats to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Let simmer for 10 minutes. This pre-boil step helps cook the brats evenly throughout so you don’t have any raw spots in the middle! Always pre-boil raw brats before grilling and eating.
After pre-boiling, remove the brats from the liquid and dry them off. Place the brats on the grill and cook turning often until nice and charred on all sides.
Once brats are browned, they are ready to eat. But the next step makes them tender, more favorable, and just fantastic.
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add the 2 bouillon cubes. Boil until cubes are dissolved.
Place the browned brats in a crock pot with the sliced onion. Pour the beef and chicken broth over the brats to cover, and add additional water if needed.
Let the brats cook in the crock pot for about 4 hours.
