Classic Deli Slaw
If you wish, you can substitute one for the other, or vary the ratios. Many will prefer just the mayo.
Ingredients for the dressing
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon celery seed (not celery salt) - optional
1/4 teaspoon salt
Ingredients for the slaw
1-pound green cabbage (about half a medium cabbage), cored
1 large carrot, peeled
1/2 bell pepper, green, red, yellow, or orange, your choice, cored
1/2 small yellow or red onion
Directions
In a large bowl, whisk together the dressing ingredients.
Shred or the rest of the ingredients with a food processor using the grating attachment, a box grater, or manually with a chefs knife. When you're done, you want a medium hash.
Add the vegetables to the bowl with the dressing and mix well.
Adjust the seasonings to your taste. Chill for at least an hour.
