Simple Dumpling (Wonton) Soup

You can use your favorite Asian dumplings or wontons for this soup. I like Ling Ling (Pork, chicken, or vegetable) Trader Joe’s has good chicken cilantro wontons. I trim the tougher base of the baby bok choy a bit, then slice them in half lengthwise. You can just rough-chop them as well.

Ingredients

  • 32 oz low-sodium chicken broth

  • 2 cups water

  • 2 cloves of garlic minced

  • 20 frozen dumplings or wontons

  • 8 oz shiitake mushrooms, sliced button mushrooms, or straw mushrooms

  • 4 baby bok choy, cut lengthwise

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or 1 tbsp fish sauce and 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 3 stalks green onion, sliced

Preparation

  1. Combine the water and chicken broth with fresh garlic, then bring to a boil.

  2. Add in the frozen dumplings or wontons.

  3. Toss in the bok choy.

  4. Add in mushrooms reduce the heat to medium-high and let the soup simmer for about 15 minutes or until the wontons float to the top.

  5. Add in the soy sauce, fish sauce, and sesame oil.

  6. Remove from heat.

  7. Garnish with green onions and serve right away.
